Another month, another batch of social media marketing news to make sure you’re staying on top of this ever-changing platform. Let’s not waste any time and get right into these bite-sized social media marketing stories.
1. Instagram Outlines How Their Own Search Algorithm Works
Instagram has published the second installment in its new ‘How Instagram Works‘ series, with an overview of how its search algorithms function, and how you can maximize your chances of showing up in relevant search results.
Instagram uses the keywords that you enter into the search field to highlight the most relevant content, with the specific text that you input being the primary matching device. But that’s not the only factor – when providing relevant search matches for a query, Instagram factors in three primary elements: the text you enter, your activity in the app, and the popularity of each query. So your previous activity plays a role in boosting your IG search presence, which is another element to consider in maximizing discovery.
2. TikTok Partners with Shopify to Pilot In-App Shopping
TikTok is entering a relatively crowded social commerce space — with apps like Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and, more recently, Twitter vying for a piece of the multibillion-dollar market.
TikTok and Shopify announced a partnership that would bring shopping capabilities to the video-sharing app in a move that leverages its highly specific algorithm. Currently, the TikTok Shopping pilot is only open to Shopify sellers located in the U.S. and U.K., with a select number of merchants in Canada joining in a few weeks. The feature will be rolled out to other regions over the next few months. Shopify merchants are required to have a TikTok For Business account in order to access TikTok Shopping.
3. Twitter Publishes New Twitter Ads Checklist to Help Guide Your Approach
Twitter has published a new one-page checklist of all the key considerations for effective tweet ad campaigns, including hashtag notes, media attachment tips and targeting pointers.
The checklist is an extension of Twitter’s recently published Agency Playbook, a 41-page guide that covers all aspects of Twitter marketing. And while the notes are aimed at agency staffers specifically, the checklist does cover all the key info that you need to build effective tweet ad campaigns.
